Today, May 29, 2010 Hollywood lost one of its Stars. Dennis Hopper succumbed to cancer and left this earth. Mr. Hopper enjoyed a tumultuous acting career that spanned six decades. Although an Actor who played roles in iconic Hollywood films including, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant, with James Dean, Dennis was tagged with the moniker of a difficult and stubborn person to work with, thus limiting his acting career for years at a time.
Dennis Hopper, a student at the prestigious Actors Studio, co-founded by Elia Kazan and later led by Lee Strasberg, was a passionate actor and later Director and Producer. Performing at a young age in the film that defined a generation, Rebel Without a Cause, Mr. Hopper later co-wrote, directed and starred in Easy Rider, the independent film that took Hollywood by storm in the 1960's and defined the post Rebel Without a Cause Generation. His Easy Rider success was soon overshadowed by his head strong personality that led Hollywood Casting Agents, Directors and Producers to believe that he did not posses a cooperative work ethic. In his later years Dennis Hopper credited John Wayne with saving his career. Ten years after Easy Rider in another iconic Hollywood Film, Apocalypse Now, that defined another segment of the baby boom Generation, Mr. Hopper's talents were again featured leading to a cascade of work as an Actor, Director and Producer.
Dennis Hopper's artistic pursuits included Television and Film Work along with a passion for Art and Photography. As an Actor who played roles in some of the most memorable American Films, Mr. Hopper became a fixture in its culture. Mehron Makeup has bore witness to not only the career of Dennis Hopper but also to his entire life, as Mr. Hopper was born nine years after the founding of Mehron Makeup. As a student of Character Acting in the Actors Studio located in New York City, Mr. Hopper would have certainly been a student of the physical transformation that Professional Performance Makeup added to an Actor's performance.
Through a troubled personal life that included decades of drug abuse and numerous failed marriages, Dennis Hopper always rose again to show his acting abilities in roles that will never be forgotten. It is with a heavy heart that Mehron Makeup recognizes the accomplishments of this career actor and bids him farewell.
