The Werewolf

One of the oldest Man into Beast myths is that of the Werewolf. Throughout recorded history stories about the Werewolf abound. One of the earliest is that of Lycaon, who was turned into a beast man by the offended gods. Shape shifters and those undergoing metamorphosis are described in the Literature and Poetry of every culture that has recorded their history. Some cultures did not specifically refer to the Beast Man as Were Wolf, even though the descriptions and habits are eerily similar throughout the written history of almost every culture on earth. The Greeks told the story of Lycaon, while the Roman Poet Ovid told the story of Metamorphoses, which described a group of shape sifters who became wolves and roamed the forest. The stories describing the Werewolf are remarkably similar even though written by many cultures during many different time periods. The Children's fable. Little Red Riding Hood has even been interpreted as a werewolf story.

Throughout the ages the creation of the Werewolf has taken many turns, from the Greek Myth of punishment for partaking in human flesh, through many other cultures that attribute the metamorphosis of a man into a Werewolf because of the bite of another Werewolf. In the modern cinematic interpretation of the Werewolf, the horror film genre has often depicted the transformation of Man into Beast as an horrific, painful, shape shifting experience.
