Zombie Walk to Fight Cancer

On July 19, 2009 in the coastal town of Poole, Dorset, England Body Painting Artists have organized a creative way to raise money in the fight against cancer, a Zombie Walk. The two designated recipients of the donated funds are the Macmillan Cancer Support and Julia's House. The Macmillian Cancer Support was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan after watching the pain and suffering that his father experienced in his battle with cancer. Throughout the almost 100 year history of the Macmillan Cancer Support the name of the organization has changed but the mission has always remained true, to help patients and their families mount an informed, supported fight in the battle with cancer. Julia's House is a foundation founded by the family and friends of Nurse Julia Perks who left behind a history of caring for children even though she herself was killed by cancer at a much too early age.

The lightheartedness of the Zombie Walk is not reflective of the serious work for which it raises money. Even the Slogan of the Zombie Walk is a poke in the eye of cancer. The Zombie Walk Slogan is R.I.P., which for the Zombie Walk means Reach In Pockets. Volunteer Body Painters and Makeup Artists will volunteer to turn any volunteer walker into a Zombie to increase participation.
