From Theater, To Film, To You

The 1927-1928 Broadway Season saw a record setting 264 Shows open, a record that still stands 82 years later. Theater goers attending Broadway Shows during the 1927-1928 Season could chose from, A Connecticut Yankee, based on Mark Twain's, A Connecticut Yankee in King Aurthur's Court, Henrik Ibsen's, An Enemy of the People, William Shakespeare's, Much Ado About Nothing, or Ziegfeld Follies of 1927 based on the writings of Eddie Cantor with the Musical Composition and Lyrics by an up and coming Irving Berlin, along with an astounding 260 other plays that opened during that Broadway Season.

Working with many of the actors and actresses appearing on the stages of New York City in 1927, Mehron Melik was perfecting the art of Theatrical Makeup. Eighty Two years later The Makeup perfected by Mehron Melik is simply known as Mehron. In 1927 it was known as Mehron's Makeup by the Performers who purchased it and applied it themselves. The abundance of shows opening around New York City, and especially in the Broadway Theater District meant that Mehron could no longer visit each and every dressing room personally. This led to the birth of the Mehron Ladies. The Mehron Ladies would pack their bags at the loft where Mehron Melik handmade his makeup each day and fan out to visit the dressing rooms of the theaters, delivering the vibrant stage makeup to the Performers, and instructing them on how to apply it.

Mehron still delivers Theatrical Makeup to the dressing rooms on Broadway, currently, the Monster Hit Musical, Shrek the Musical has Mehron on the dressing room tables. What makes Theatrical Makeup different is that it is made to an exacting standard that withstands the rigors of performing on stage, it is clear, clean, crisp and vibrant. It presents the same look if you are in the first row of the audience or the last. It is worn daily, so it must be kind to the skin of the performer, easy to apply, long lasting and easy to remove.

Mehron has taken all the lessons learned from eighty two years of Theatrical Makeup production and applied them to the production of Beauty Makeup, Fashion Makeup and Extreme Beauty Makeup. In September 2009, eighty two years after the handmade Makeup of Mehron appeared on Broadway, Mehron premiered on the Runways of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week in a highly acclaimed presentation of the made in the USA Beauty Makeup Collection.

Throughout the years Mehron has been there for all the firsts in the evolution of Entertainment. Mehron was already a twelve year old Makeup Company when the Wizard of Oz was released in 1939. By the advent of color Television, Mehron was in its fourth decade of producing Studio and Stage Makeup. From the late 1950's into the 1960's the Night Clubs of Miami Beach, Florida were in full swing, and Mehron was there.

On October 14, 2009 Mehron Makeup retuns to Miami Beach, Forida with their sponsorship of Rock Fashion Week. Rock Fashion Week is an innovative Fashion Presentation that combines, sight and sound into a production that highlights the Fashion Presentations of the avate gard of Fashion Designers.
